I read a wonderful article on the loss of American Independence by Patrick Buchanan this morning (Thanks, Micki!).  I would love to paraphrase it or to make witty and thoughtful commentary.  The problem is that I am just not as eloquent or well spoken (or even as consice) as Mr. Buchanan.  So rather than me talking about what he said, go read the article here.  It was written for the fourth, but truth is not dated.  Truth is never dated.  What was true in 1776 is still true, for that matter what was true in 176 is still true.

Considering our income and our deductions we are only paying about 15% of our income in income tax (until those tax cuts are taken back by the Democrats).  Given current economic conditions our monthly budget can’t handle a whole lot.  My sweetie commutes a way to work (in a small fuel efficient car) and a 15 passenger van gets ridiculously low mileage, so we spend approximately $300 or more per month on gas.  Food budget?  Crazy.  Higher than our mortgage.  So how much higher can we afford our expenses to go?  If gas prices go up to $7 a gallon and food prices climb accordingly we are hosed.  Can we add to that the cost of yet another unjustified war?
